Folk Tote
Textile artist Layne Steinhelper creates unique totes and pouches using ethically-sourced cloth from around the world. Closer to home, Steinhelper’s husband, Mark, taps into his chemistry background to marble, monoprint, and hand dye truly one-of-a-kind textiles for the bags. Layne’s work brings together fabrics in unexpected combinations and manipulates surfaces through a variety of needlework techniques. For Steinhelper, the textural qualities of her bags are as important as the visual. “They are meant to be touched,” she says of her bags, calling them, “soft and quirky works of art.”
